Imitating Jesus: Making Disciples
Remembering and devoting ourselves to God’s goodness (Loving God) and joining
Him in his mission (Loving Others).
(Luke 22:19-20, John 15:7-17, John 13:12-14, John 14:12, Matthew 28:18-20,
Philippians 2:1-5)
1) BELONG
Making the Gospel message of Jesus Christ known starts with you. Making
disciples begins with recognizing people in your sphere of influence, choosing
to build relationships (establish belonging) with those people, and deciding to
unconditionally love and unselfishly serve those people.
“Go and be.”
(John 13:14-15, Matt 25:35-40, Luke 10:27-28, Acts 1:8, Luke 10:3-9, 1 John
3:18, Gal 5:13;6:10)
2) BELIEVE
Making disciples involves a conscious decision to invite people to join you on
a journey of exploration and discovery toward faith and belief in Jesus Christ
as the way, the truth, and the life. This includes actively participating with
others to create and utilize opportunities that will serve as steps (or tools)
along the way.
“Come and see.”
(Matthew 22:1-4, 9-10; Luke 14:17,21,23; John 6:35-40; Revelation 19:9)
3) BECOME
Making disciples involves a commitment to make the way of Jesus a way of life
through worship, studying Scripture and putting it into action, and also
through active service in God’s church and His work in the world.
(Acts 2:42-47; Colossians 3:12-17; James 1:22-25; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14;
Ephesians 4:1-5;11-13; 1 John 5:3)
Our mission demands a commitment to:
1) Being a community who works together to create and develop environments
where culture is creatively leveraged to present the Gospel in clear and
compelling ways.
2) Identifying, supporting, and serving initiatives that help God’s people help
others in need locally, regionally, and globally.
3) Exemplifying generosity with financial resources and sacrificing whatever it
takes to remain obedient to the mission.
4) Full participation in creating, implementing, and utilizing the environments
(tools) deemed necessary to accomplish the mission. This involves people
recognizing their unique gifts and abilities and using them to serve in the
church.
